Therapeutic focused ultrasound (FUS) in combination with microbubbles is being widely investigated for its ability to elicit bioeffects in the microvasculature, with efforts to date focusing on permeabilization to enhance drug delivery. At sufficiently high pressures, FUS and microbubbles can induce perfusion shutdown and tissue necrosis, an approach termed antivascular ultrasound (AVUS).
