The efficiency of the Rhodamine 6G dye laser is theoretically investigated in the special case of intense flashlamp excitation. A serious limitation of the energy and of the pulse repetition rate of coaxial-flashlamp excited dye lasers is given by the ultrasonic wave initiated by the electrical discharge and which propagates through the dyecell during the laser emission.
