期刊介绍
Equity & Excellence in Education publishes theoretically rich, methodologically rigorous peer reviewed research articles, analytical essays, and artistic creations (such as creative essays, poems, hip-hop writing, short stories, excerpts from graphic novels, et cetera) to be included in our newly created ‘For the Culture’ section. To be on point, these submissions must advance and/or complicate existing conceptualizations and understandings of equity, excellence, and justice across the field of education. We are particularly interested in publishing manuscripts applying critical frameworks that engage in the intersectional examination of systemic oppression along with those that explore ideas of joy, futurity, freedom-dreaming, and radical imagination. We want to see work that affectively moves and intellectually inspires as much as it informs. To reach a broad and diverse audience, we welcome new heat that does it for the culture, invokes marginalized epistemologies, centers historically marginalized ways of knowing, and responds to our contemporary digitally-mediated social reality. We welcome culturally sustaining conceptual and empirical submissions that do this at the local, trans/national, and global levels, especially those that demolish narrow notions of what counts as knowledge in academic journals. As a forum for public engagement that is both intellectually sophisticated and accessible, we aim to transgress the boundaries of academic discourse that calls for equity but thrives on reinforcing exclusion. Thus, we ain’t afraid of submissions that throw necessary shade at the hegemonic practices underpinning much knowledge generation in the academy. Such pieces should avoid fetishized conceptualizations of equity and excellence in education. Manuscripts that utilize humanizing and critical methodologies, disrupt the hierarchy in the academy through critically conscious citational practices, and/or disrupt “standard” American language practices will be prioritized. Manuscripts that do anything for clout, forward flat theorizations of social identities, or that contain unnecessarily jargonistic or esoteric terms that are not accessible to communities or populations discussed within the submission are not gonna fly. Manuscripts in which the author is noticeably absent from the piece—that is, those wherein author positionalities, subjectivities, and social identities are obscured and/or not explored meaningfully to some extent—probably ain’t gonna fly either.
